These are a few shots I got from a friend that, well, kind of blew my mind. I know steelhead live under the ice up in B.C. throughout the winter but I've never heard of it getting that cold here in Oregon. Last fall we did see some lasting cold temperatures, this is what happened.

The ice here got so thick you could walk on it. In the next pic you can see a rock on top of the ice that was thrown about twenty feet above the river. The rock was about 8" by 6".

Finally, the spring rains have subsided and summer seems to be making it's way through the front door. 80 to 90 degree weather, shines through the extended forecast. It's summer time, and the living is easy.

Spent the first weekend of summer on the North. The river was running at a flow I drool over throughout the winter months, but not so much in the middle of June. But, it is the middle of June and I couldn't stop myself from going. The flows are high enough that there is nothing to slow these early fish down, at all, but this early season is all about luck anyway.

The fishing was good, didn't get a touch.

Taking a chance to see a fish trying to jump the falls.

None showed.
