Bye and bye

Inevitably so, we will all catch our last steelhead, fish a run for the last time, our last day on the river…

This was the last fish I’ll see with Freddie. Walking into this spot this past July, “This run is so beautiful”. My mind, “You just fucking get it…and we prob gonna get one in here now”

Nobody loved it more than Freddie. No one.

The drive to continue to learn and do what was asked of him. No one else in my days have I seen it.

Aging but battling for every last steelhead. In the gym, eating right. The drive at 83 was inspiring. “I wanna do this till I’m 90!”

Unable to reach out anymore but, knowing how important it was to fish the run properly, he’d use his left arm to support his right to reach and fish it the way it should be done.

Long decent, knowing the up hill after would be a beast. People my age scoff at. Pulling into the turnout last fall, “Give this to me one more time Freddie?” “Till I die”, he yells.

Love you, gonna miss you and hear your voice throughout my days…so many memories and the life lessons taken in, unforgotten.

Can’t say enough about this man. He was one of us. A steelheader.

Freddie passed doing the very thing he loved. Hopefully tied to a giant that took him. He will forever remain in my subconscious.

“YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Unstoppable life. Remember those that touched. Made an impact. Not forgetting. As Freddie would have it.
